Blue Sausage Infant-Locust Hit the Ground Screaming: 1987-2010
Blue Sausage Infant is the work of Chester Hawkins of Washington DC. For 24 years, BSI has produced music that combines aspects of noise, drone, krautrock, sample-plundering, dark ambient, and kosmische electronica to produce a complex feast for the brain.
"Locust Hit the Ground Screaming" is an attempt to summarize the journey so far. These 15 tracks are a chronological exhibit of works from 1987 to 2010, and cover a wide range of sounds, from self-indulgent noise to sublime trance music. Most of the material was mastered from (barely) surviving cassettes.
BSI began in 1986 in a tiny roach-infested apartment in Silver Spring, MD with only a toy sampler, guitar, a pile of scrap aluminum, and a Roland Space-Echo. A series of handmade cassettes followed until 2000, when the project stalled for unknown reasons. After an 8-year hiatus, the muse kicked into overdrive and the momentum became insane once again.
Over time, Blue Sausage Infant went from that filthy apartment in Maryland to an even filthier basement in DC (the infamous Groovesville), then to Syracuse NY (Blue Mingo Cathedral), Tucson AZ (the Ashram Intangible), Bangor ME, and now back to DC, with a renewed energy for recording and live performances.
So this release is for the curious ones (if there are any), wondering who this BSI cat is anyway, and how the hell did it get here....
Cover art is available with the audio download.

Reviews:
Hawkins has been turning out numerous releases of this brand of mesmerising paranoid electronic noise, mixed up with bits of samples, guitars, radios, sound effects and assorted detritus. ... I was interested to note he's collaborated with fellow  Washington resident Violet ... and they both seem to occupy roughly similar turf, sharing a relentless determination to explore disquieting and alien territory in a methodical, almost scientific way.
